Lifesaving Course Singapore

Steady Swim provides lifesaving training in line with the Singapore Life Saving Society’s standards – from beginner Lifesaving 1, 2 and 3 training programs to Bronze Medallion certification.

Learn Lifesaving Skills with
SLSS-certified Swim Instructors

Lifesaving skills are a prerequisite for anyone looking to work in occupations where drowning and water hazards are a risk. Whether you’re looking to become a lifeguard, a swimming instructor, or need lifesaving certification in your line of work, you need to attend a lifesaving course in Singapore.

Steady Swim can help you gain the skills to respond to emergencies on land or in aquatic environments – our instructors use a structured program based on the standards set by the Singapore Life Saving Society (SLSS). Each of our swim instructors holds an SLSS lifesaving certification and has experience helping swimmers transition from SwimSafer certification to learning lifesaving skills.

Participants must be competent swimmers and hold at least a SwimSafer certification to sign up for our lifesaving course in Singapore. As a general fitness and water competency benchmark, students should be able to swim at least 200-300 meters without stopping and tread water for at least 2 minutes.

Our Lifesaving Course Options

Steady Swim’s lifesaving courses are designed for swimmers who want to extend their swimming proficiency into lifesaving skills.

Lifesaving 1, 2, 3

Lifesaving 1, 2, 3 courses are the entry level for learning the fundamentals of lifesaving skills. All three levels must be completed progressively – participants are required to pass a practical to obtain the respective SLSS certificate.

Lifesaving 1 (LS1)

  • Water safety and hazard awareness
  • Land-based, non-contact rescue methods (reaching and throwing life buoys)
  • Recognising signs of distress for swimmers

Lifesaving 2 (LS2)

  • Wading and accompanied rescues in the water
  • Introduction to resuscitation techniques (CPR) and rope-based rescue aids
  • Learning escape techniques from a panicking swimmer, and towing a resistant or unconscious casualty

Lifesaving 3 (LS3)

  • Advanced rescue and water survival skills
  • Sculling and treading water without the use of arms
  • Underwater search and retrieval
  • Full coverage of resuscitation techniques
  • Performing rescues in clothing (rather than swimwear)

Bronze Medallion

The Bronze Medallion is the minimum requirement for those looking to work as a lifeguard or swim instructor. Participants must have completed Lifesaving 3 before enrolling in the Bronze Medallion lifesaving course.

  • Practising unbriefed rescue scenarios that mirror real-world emergencies
  • Advanced defensive techniques for handling a distressed or panicking casualty who may grab or resist the rescuer
  • In-water resuscitation preparation and practice
  • Treatment of a casualty for shock after rescue

Obtaining the Bronze Medallion certification involves a theory and practical exam covering water safety principles, physiology basics, and rescue judgment from SLSS training. Participants must also hold a valid CPR qualification before taking the practical exam.
